The focus is on developing both verbal and nonverbal communication skills. Students learn to dictate ideas, participate in conversations about experiences, speak in complete sentences with increasing clarity, ease and accuracy, use and expand vocabulary and use oral language as an effective means of communication.
This course introduces letter forms, letter sounds and sight words, allowing for name recognition, writing names, sight words and an introduction to all letter sounds.
Children receive introduction to pre-writing skills using age appropriate resources to encourage independent attempts to produce letters, this course teaches children to write and copy letters of the alphabet, understand letter sounds and to verbalize letter sounds corresponding to the written alphabet.
Students receive introduction to pre-mathematical skills: counting by rote; one to one correspondence; number recognition and forming numbers. Children will be introduced to adding, understand measurement and size, number recognition and writing in numerals.
Children will demonstrate an awareness of school surroundings and class rules, understand holidays, basic geography, understand planet earth and its features, understand our place in the food chain and much more. Students leaving the program will have learnt how to attach emotions with situations or circumstances, and use these skills to talk about themselves and their family, where they come from, etc.
Students are introduced to the joys of science through hands on experiments, reinforced with songs, art, literature and math. Children will be able to understand the value of good nutrition, the effects of weather, explore the earth and sky and name parts of the body and the function of some internal organs.
Creative Arts Development is divided into 3 categories; Creative Thinking, Visual Arts and Creative Play. Children will learn to select and persevere at challenging tasks, explore art materials and tools, create artwork modeled by the teacher and self-create.
This course is designed to encourage children to explore their feelings, to show respect to their peers and develop self-esteem. Children will be able to express feelings and needs in an appropriate manner, demonstrate awareness of others need, develop a healthy self – esteem, respect the rights and belongings of others, play in small groups and pairs and participate in small groups to complete a task.
